Four-shelved stand

Four-shelved stand四方卓子

This simple but attractive stand was made by connecting five flat boards to four thin rods forming the vertical frame. In addition to their decorative appeal, stands like this were used to store and display small items such as books, ceramics, and uniquely shaped rocks. Because of the exemplary proportion between the vertical rods and horizontal boards, the stand nicely accommodates the narrow living space of a Korean traditional house. With its clean lines and natural beauty, the four-shelved stand is considered one of the representative pieces of Joseon furniture.
