Dragon in the Clouds雲龍圖

Discription

Folk paintings often depict imaginary or legendary creatures that were believed to bring good fortune, such as dragons or phoenix. Dragons with a cintamani (auspicious jewel) were an especially popular motif, as they were believed to grant wishes and bring wealth. In addition, paintings of dragons in the clouds were sometimes used in ceremonies to summon rain. With its vivid depiction of a dragon and cintamani enshrouded by dark rain clouds, this is one of the finest extant examples of a cloud and dragon painting.
