Buncheong Bottle粉靑沙器鐵畵花鳥文甁

Description

Unlike the precise and meticulous designs generally found on celadon and white porcelain, buncheong wares often feature whimsical hand-painted motifs that always bring a smile to the viewer’s face. The painting in iron-brown underglaze on this bottle is a typical example. Although the “bird and flower” motif was popular for centuries, this particular rendering conveys an especially relaxed sense of innocence and joy because of the odd spatial expression, the two-dimensional depiction of the flower, and the unique face and posture of the bird.
